Mithali Raj will lead the 14-member Indian squad in the next month's ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers which brings together 10 sides in their quest to claim the remaining four places in the main event to be held in June next year. The tournament will run from February 7 to 21 at four Colombo venues and the sides finishing in the top four of the Super Six stage will join defending champion Australia, host England, former winner New Zealand and reigning ICC World Twenty20 champion West Indies in the ICC Women's World Cup 2017 from June 26 to July 23.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will on Thursday review contingency plans for this year's men's Twenty20 World Cup in Australia and discuss ways to re-start the sport once the coronavirus pandemic subsides, the governing body said on Monday. The global health crisis, which has forced travel and other restrictions in several countries, has halted professional cricket and jeopardises Twenty20 cricket's flagship event scheduled to begin on October 18 in Geelong.

Powered by his marauding knocks in the World Twenty20 so far, Indian batsman Virat Kohli on Tuesday became the top-ranked batsman in the ICC rankings, while India remained static at the No.1 spot in the team list. Kohli, who averages 92 after scoring 184 runs in four matches at a strike-rate of over 132, had entered the tournament 24 points behind Aaron Finch, but has now opened up a 68-point advantage over the Australian, the ICC said in a statement. In the bowlers' table, West Indies' Samuel Badree has displaced Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to return to the number-one position. Badree has taken six wickets in four matches to date, while Ashwin has dropped to third after managing just four wickets in as many matches.

Ashish has made a very good comeback. It's not easy to do coming back after six years to a new Indian team. He has had his ups and downs. India suffered a major blow ahead of Thursday's ICC World T20 semi-final against West Indies, when senior all-rounder Yuvraj Singh was ruled out of the mega-event because of injury. Yuvraj twisted his ankle while batting in the previous match against Australia in Mohali and has been ruled out of further participation in the tournament. "The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 has approved Manish Pandey as a replacement player for Yuvraj Singh in India's squad for the tournament," the ICC said in a media release on Wednesday. The 26-year-old Pandey has played two T20Is, which were against Zimbabwe in Harare in July, last year.
